The Digital Citizen Academy Home Program is a research based, grade specific program designed to educate, empower, and inspire students to become responsible digital citizens.
Our Home Program, developed and written by experienced teachers, is designed to work in accordance with individual grades, maturity, and experience allowing parents to engage their child’s current knowledge, restructure and remediate misconceptions, and empower their child to have a voice in the digital world.
Adapted from our award winning School Program, our Home Program version will not only provide you better knowledge of how to address digital use and responsibility with your child but provide an easy guide for you and your family to learn, discuss, and create a plan together for how to be digitally responsible in your everyday lives. When parents come across terminology in the videos which, similar to a classroom setting, says “work with a partner,” “talk with a group,” “share your work with a class,” they will gain insight into their child’s responses as they partner with their child in their learning.
With the speed of technology and how quickly it came into our lives, our children have often been handed devices and access to the internet without formal training on how to navigate it safely. Although no one wants to believe that the devices we use for everything from making phone calls, sending emails, or posting to social media could be something that develops into an addiction, impacts them on a social emotional level or puts our children at risk from online predators, it happens each and every day.
With nearly two decades working directly in the space of how technology impacts psychological well-being, Dr. Strohman, Founder and CEO of Digital Citizen Academy, felt it imperative that parents have tools to combat the true social and emotional toll their children face. The Digital Citizen Academy teaches children how to utilize the advantages of technology, while protecting them from its ill effects through awareness, education, empowerment and leadership training.
The Digital Citizen Academy School Program provides parents with grade specific content along with materials that include a Family Resource Guide, Online Video Lessons, a Student Activity Workbook and Materials, and an Optional Pre and Post Assessment. With the guidance of the parent, module lessons can be taught over several weeks or months depending on your family schedule. In order to make a sustainable impact on a child’s learning, Digital Citizen Academy lessons are purposely designed to be no more than 30 minutes in length, giving parents the flexibility and time for meaningful discussions, suggested activities, review and follow up as appropriate.
